Teacher of the Year: Paige Saunders
Please join us in congratulating APT member and Fifth Grade Hearst Elementary teacher, Paige Saunders, as Pleasanton's Teacher of the Year!
Ms. Saunders develops unique lesson plans and activities all while creating a safe and welcoming environment in her classroom. She builds and appreciates strong relationships with her students, colleagues, and families. “I come in for the morning meetings that we have where we sit together on the carpet every day and talk about our weekend and talk about our day,” Saunders said. “I come for that relationship.” She was especially touched to find out that several of her peers had nominated her.

Sam Weaver
Sam is a strong advocate for APT members. He is a proud product of Pleasanton Schools and now teaches AP Government & AP Macroeconomics to Amador Valley High School students. Sam has been a Site Rep and is currently serving as our Vice President. He has worked diligently to update our standing rules and bylaws.
Katherine Orenberg:
California History Teacher of the Year
Pleasanton Middle School history teacher Katherine Orenberg was named the 2024 California History Teacher of the Year. Ms. Orenberg is being recognized for her innovative teaching methods that “bring history to life for diverse learners,” according to the press release. Katie shared, “This award means the world to me as I am not only a product of Pleasanton schools, but it was this very community that helped me become a teacher in the first place." According to a Pleasanton Weekly article, "Orenberg said for her, it’s important for her students to know that the same people who are in those history books were human, just like them and that students see themselves in these stories, which goes to show that they too can grow up and contribute to the future of the nation."
Karen Lord-Eyewe Represents
Amador's Spanish teacher, Mstra. Lord-Eyewe, represents her colleagues from Pleasanton and across the state through multiple elected and appointed roles. Karen has been a State Council representative for CTA for eight years and is the Chair of the Professional Rights and Responsibility Committee. She is also a CTA Member Lobbyist, working on behalf of her fellow educators to improve teaching and learning conditions. An elected California delegate for the NEA Representative Assembly, she will carry the voice of her members to establish national policy.
Cal State East Bay Distinguished Alumna Award: Christie Carnahan
A dual-immersion kindergarten teacher at Valley View Elementary and former Teacher of the Year, Ms. Carnahan was a first-generation college student. Shee has a passion forr scieenceec, teechnology and literacy, and is one of 1200 SMART Exemplary Educators across the world. "I feel like I have broken the chains of illiteracy and bondage that have plagued my family for generations," she said, "...the women in my family's story has changed."
